Blog 4: Vitamins

Looking back on my first 25 years of life compared to my second 25 years of life I can honestly say wow what a difference. My first 25 years I was a poor eater, I would never have taken a vitamin, and was sick all the time! My family called me the “care package” I am not just talking a little sick, but sick like pneumonias, ear infections, Lyme disease, positive PPD for TB, severe sinus infections and much more! I was always ill. Now it has been 10 years since my last cold! I am never sick. I eat healthy, exercise, and I take my share of vitamins! Why the change you may ask. Well I will blame that on my first son Maxwell. It was a terrible pregnancy. I lived on ice cream because I was nauseated all the time, and vomited most days. I gained very little weight in pregnancy. He did not grow well, and hence spent the first 5 years of his life sick all the time! Until I met a man named Steve who turned my life around and my sons life around, and hence my love for holistic medicine and nutrition was born! From that day forward I have been a changed person. It took me about 3 years to transition into a healthy diet, eating mostly organic and using mostly all organic products. I had always exercised so that stayed the same. The more I learned about nutrition the more it helped me to see the importance of vitamins and herbal supplements. Now I do not even get bothered by the 30 or so different bottles of vitamins that sit on my counter top so that my family will see them and put them in their mouths! So what was I getting at with all of this. VITAMINS- not all are created equal. Everyone always asks me about vitamins. There are good and not so good vitamins. Cheaper is not better. If your vitamins are not whole food vitamins then you are probably doing your body an injustice. Synthetic vitamins I feel are just as bad as synthetic food, and I do not think your body can utilize them. And do not get me started on gummies! Really just not worth the money, they can cause cavities just like any other gummy food, even if they are organic gummies! There are so many good whole food vitamins on the market from New Chapter, Rainbow Light, Standard Process, Innate, Garden of Life, Vitamin Code, Animal Parade, ect that why would anyone want to buy cheap synthetic vitamins! My guess is that people just do not know. They do not know the harm that comes from our tainted food supply, or that there are good and bad vitamins. When choosing a vitamin look at the ingredients. Look for ones with methyl folate because so many people have a gene variant called MTHFR that requires methyl folate for the body to work. Look for GMP and USP certified vitamins. Look for age appropriate vitamins, as well as men and women. Look for gluten free, dairy free, sugar free, no silica, artificial colors or flavors, and preferably organic without pesticides, synthetic chemicals, antibiotics, and growth hormones. Any questions or concerns I would be happy to help. Vitamins are important and necessary for good health so please choose wisely!

  2. I feel the same way. Great post. All I see is people complaint and venting on social media. Let’s make some change, only problem is I don’t know how to do that.
